ADEKE WOMEN AND GIRLS ADVOCATE FOR MORE WOMEN EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMS

On the 7th of August, 2025, women and adolescent girls of Adeke as part of their group project, visited the Benue state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, as well as the premises of Benue Television to advocate for more women empowerment programs both from the ministry and the state-owned television. This visit was part of activities for the Leading Change project by Teenagers Care for Sustainable Development Initiative in partnership with Nigeria Women Trust Fund (NWTF) and funded by Ford Foundation.
As part of their group project, the participants first visited the office of the Honorable Commissioner, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, and were received by the ministry’s permanent secretary. Speaking on behalf of participants, the leader of the group took time to enlighten the ministry on the impart of the project in their lives so far and charged the ministry to organize more empowerment programs for rural women to empower them financially as well as enlighten them more of their right as women and include them in leadership.
Responding, the Honorable commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, thanked the organization for organizing the training and charge the women to use the lessons learnt to bring about change in their community, while promising that their concerns will be looked at by the Government.
In another development, the women group while at the premises of Benue Television, were received by the Director-General and his team. The women group leader thanked the management of the station for the several women programs that are aired by the station and called for inclusiveness in program selection, as well as airing of women programs in indigenous languages so that they can be carried along.
The women were given a tour of the premises by the management of Benue TV and took photographs with the women.
