TFI ADVOCATES INCLUSION OF WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP ROLES

On the 12th of April, 2025, Teenagers Care for Sustainable Development Initiative in partnership with Nigeria Women Trust Fund (NWTF) organized a one-day sensitization workshop for women and adolescent girls in Adeke community of Makurdi LGA, Benue State. The workshop marked the official take-off of a six-month project tagged, “Leading Change: A Women Empowerment Project on Leadership and Inclusion for Community Impact”. The project which is targeted at rural women and adolescent girls in Adeke community, aims at empowering women and girls with leadership mentality and skills, and advocate for the need for women and girls to participate in leadership at the community level.
Speaking during the workshop, the first Guest speaker Mrs. Victoria Agbese, who is Principal of Ogri Oko Memorial Secondary School in Makurdi, spoke on leadership and how women’s participation can bring about positive changes in both the lives of women and their community. She charged women not to give in to timidity but be bold and speak up for their community as well as the women folk, urging that such actions will bring about the required change they desire.


Another Guest Speaker Evang. Mrs. Enuwa Soo who is the Vice Chairman Otukpo LGA and the State Coordinator Network Against Child Trafficking and Labor (NACTAL), spoke on Gender-based Violence (GBV). Citing several incidents that have occurred in the country as violence against women, she urged the women not to remain silent in the face of abuse, but learn to speak up, seek redress and communicate to the appropriate authorities.
Other speakers at the program including the representative of the traditional ruler of Adeke community, representative of the clergy and participants themselves, all lauded the organization for initiating the project and choosing their community as the beneficiary. They urged participants to take the new knowledge acquired seriously and promised their support throughout the period of the project.
Highlights of the program also included questions and answers session, and free distribution of sanitary pads to participants.
